Dr. Kevin Jensen

Kevin L. Jensen received the B. S. degree in applied physics from Columbia University in 1981, and the M. S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from New York University in 1984 and 1987, respectively.  In 1987, he joined the Naval Research Laboratory as a National Research Council post-doc and in 1990, he became a Research Physicist for theoretical work on emission properties of electron sources for vacuum electronics. Since 2002 he has also been a Visiting Senior Research Scientist at the University of Maryland, and in 2015 he joined the Materials and Sensors Branch of the Materials Science and Technology Division at NRL. His theoretical research concerns emission properties of electron sources, particularly field emission and photoemission as used in particle accelerators and Free Electron Lasers. He has chaired symposia and sessions on cold cathodes and vacuum microelectronics, and serves on committees for international electron sources conferences. He has authored and coauthored more than 130 contributions to journals, conference proceedings, encyclopedia articles, book and book chapters. In 2009, he was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society “for fundamental contributions to the theory and modeling of electron emission sources for particle accelerators and microwave tubes.” He is presently authoring an introductory textbook on electron emission physics for Wiley.
